Charles Allen Torbett operates Torbett's Auto Parts and represents the third generation of his family in the business. The auto parts store is an outgrowth of Lambert and Torbett's Twin City Desoto car dealership. In 1944 Charles Torbett Sr. concentrated on the auto parts side of the business and it has continued since. Allen Torbett has been operating the store at the current Broad Street Center since 1978.

When a customer enters the store, Allen himself will probably greet the customer by name. There does not seem to be any vehicle or type of part missing from his knowledge base. In addition to parts, he carries a good stock of tools and accessories and will make hydraulic hoses. Items not in stock are usually available the next day. Hours are 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday. The phone number is (423) 626-5289.

Torbett's Auto Parts is one of a shrinking number of businesses where smokers are welcome. As he runs the store as a one-man operation, it falls under the exemptions of the new law in this state. The coffee pot is usually hot. The store is one of the hometown businesses that seem to be disappearing in the chain store world. Torbett says that scheduling vacations or other time off can be difficult without employees, but that he manages. Customers seem to understand if the store happens to be closed for a few days.
